My 2026 Credit Card Strategy: What's New

As we move through 2026, my physical wallet has become almost obsolete. I’ve reached a point where if a transaction can’t be completed via Apple Pay or a quick online checkout, I generally avoid it. The miles-chasing landscape in Singapore has evolved significantly; we’ve moved away from the "set it and forget it" era into a time of digital precision. With tightening caps and shifting merchant categories, I’ve streamlined my portfolio to just six essential cards that live permanently in my phone.

By consolidating my spending into these six powerhouse cards, I ensure that every dollar works toward my next business class getaway while keeping my pockets light.

1. Citi PremierMiles Card

The Citi PremierMiles remains the bedrock of my digital wallet. It is my go-to "general spend" card for when a transaction doesn't fit into a specific high-earn category. The miles earned here never expire, which is a massive relief for long-term goal planning. I use this card for miscellaneous physical transactions that don't trigger specific bonuses, ensuring a steady floor of 1.2 miles per dollar across the board.

Exclusive Offer (6 - 15 January 2026): New cardholders who apply and spend S$500 within 30 days can choose between S$400 Cash via PayNow, a Dyson Airstrait (worth S$799), or an Apple iPad (11" Wi-Fi 128GB).

2. OCBC Rewards Credit Card

In the 2026 retail landscape, the OCBC Rewards Credit Card is my primary weapon for online and department store shopping. It offers a staggering 10X OCBC$ (equivalent to 4 miles per dollar) on eligible retail spend. I’ve designated this card for all my clothing purchases and holiday shopping. With a manageable cap, it’s the perfect card to pull out (digitally) when I’m hitting the shops or browsing e-commerce sites.

Exclusive Offer (Until 15 January 2026): Apply and spend S$400 to claim S$370 Cash via PayNow, an iPad A16 11-inch, or 50,000 OCBC$—which is effectively a round trip to Bali.

3. HSBC TravelOne Card

My favorite all-rounder right now is the HSBC TravelOne Card. What sets this apart in my digital strategy is the sheer speed and variety of its transfer partners. It functions as a "bridge" card; I use it for a mix of local and foreign currency spending because the points conversion to a wide array of airline and hotel programs is nearly instantaneous. It’s low-maintenance and incredibly efficient for those who don’t want to be locked into just one airline.

Exclusive Offer (6 - 15 January 2026): Pay the annual fee and spend S$500 to receive a Dyson Airstrait (worth S$799), an Apple iPad (11" Wi-Fi 128GB), or S$400 Cash via PayNow.

4. Citi Prestige Card

The Citi Prestige Card is the "heavy lifter" that stays in the background of my phone. I primarily keep it for the Citi PayAll feature. By paying the 2.6% service fee, I can effectively "buy" miles at a discount while paying for unrewarded expenses like income tax, rent, and insurance. Furthermore, the 4th Night Free benefit is a staple for my luxury travel bookings via the Citi concierge. This card ensures that even my "boring" bills contribute to my travel fund.

Exclusive Offer (6 - 15 January 2026): Spend S$500 within 30 days of approval to choose from S$480 Cash via PayNow, a Sony WH-1000XM6 Wireless Headphone (worth S$649), or a 2D1N Staycation at Sofitel City Centre (worth S$608).

5. Standard Chartered Journey Credit Card

The Standard Chartered Journey Card has earned its spot by covering categories that other cards often neglect. I use this specifically for transportation and grocery spend, where it offers a competitive earn rate. It’s a specialized tool that ensures I am earning meaningful rewards on my most frequent, everyday digital transactions—like my morning commute or the weekly supermarket run via mobile checkout.

Exclusive Offer (Until 12 January 2026): Meet the minimum spend to receive S$180 Cash via PayNow Samsonite Straren Spinner 67/24 (worth S$600).

6. Citi SMRT Card

Rounding out the 2026 strategy is the Citi SMRT Card. While the other cards focus on long-haul miles, this card is my "cashback insurance." I use it for smaller, high-frequency digital transactions, such as fast food and coffee runs. It offers a high rebate on these categories, making it the most practical choice for those small daily expenses that don't move the needle on a miles balance but add up significantly in cash savings.

Exclusive Offer (Until 15 January 2026 / Extended Promo): New applicants who spend S$500 can secure S$380 Cash via PayNow or a Dyson Airstrait (worth S$799).

Maximize Your Rewards: The SingSaver Upgrade

If you are looking to boost your 2026 haul, don’t forget that you can often "upgrade" these base rewards. By topping up a small amount of cash, you can swap your standard gift for a premium item, ensuring your new card starts its life in your digital wallet with a high-value win.
